Description
Paid indoor skatepark with skatelite surface. Lit at night. Although yes, a little difficult to get into the air force base, it's well worth the effort. Anyone visiting oahu wanting to check it out send email thru www.passeries.com or www.50-50.com and i'm sure your needs will be met. Locally you might try to touch base with the lazy bonez skateboard shop (just outside honolulu/waikiki)...inquire within. Hickam skate hangar: keyhole bowl (dk bowl), 12 x 24 vert, 4 x 12 mini, large street course, super 6/7mini-ramp bowl coming soon (oct) the hickam skatepark is built in an old wwii hanger. Cost was $1 to enter, and a military id to get on base. It has a street area with the usual ramps and rails. There is also a vert ramp, but it has some kinks in it that make it less than ideal.the main attractions are the two bowls.the first and oldest has a 5 ft shallow end going to an 8.5ft round deep end, with 1 ft of vert. Kind of like a keyhole bowl. The waterfall was a little steep, and took some getting use to. Shape is very similar to the big bowl at montclair. The second bowl is more of a long half pipe, kinked in the middle, with corners about 6 ft high. One corner is extended to about 8ft with a pocket type setup. The middle has a tombstone with real pool coping. Both bowls were covered in masonite over plywood. They were starting to show some wear, but overall it looks like they are well maintained. I could see recent patchwork.- danny.
